Fourth quarter grant applications were presented and voted on at the November 23, 2021 AZSFWC Board meeting. Funding for the grants is available through sales of our special Conserving Wildlife license plate. More information about the license plate and how you can obtain one can be found HERE.
Three grants were approved and included the following:
$20,000 was awarded to the AZ Deer Association for the Hardscrabble Fuels Reduction habitat project. This project is a collaborative effort with SRP and will implement a juniper mastication treatment on 1,397 acres. The treatment will remove small juniper trees and brush that are contributing to an overgrown and unhealthy forest conditions. The project goal is to return the area to desired forest conditions that allows for the reintroduction of managed, low-intensity fires. Funding partners include AZ Deer Association and SRP.
$4,000 was awarded to the AZ Predator Callers for their Youth Hunt Camp. Up to 40 youths will participate in activities that include seminars on hunting safety & ethics, North American Model of Wildlife Conservation, Game Warden presentations, game calling techniques, hunting tips, sporting clay shooting, and mentored hunting situations. Partners include Valley of the Sun Quail Forever, AZGFD and AZ Predator Callers.
$9,000 was awarded to the Mule Deer Foundation for the Woodhouse Tank Rebuild habitat project. The tank was originally built several decades ago and provides a critical water resource for pronghorn, elk and deer. Partners include Friends of Northern Arizona Forest and the Mule Deer Foundation.
